According to research firm Canalys, Google’s Android mobile operating system has captured 48% of the world-wide smartphone market in Q2 2011 – a significant increase over the 32.9% figure held by the search engine giant in Q4 2010. The year-over-year figures were even more impressive as Android smartphone shipments were up 379% with 51.9 million units shipped.
