Despite the misleading title, this post is not about robots creating their own offspring which in a way would be more unsettling – especially if they were of the fire-breathing variety – than the actual topic of discussion. Below are two videos of special effects professional Chris Clarke’s animatronic babies. The Verge called it “an all-out assault from the uncanny valley” and despite the fact that there are rational (and obvious) reasons why one would prefer to use a robot infant in television or movies instead of a real human infant, I tend to agree that watching Clarke’s creation squirm is rather unsettling.
From UFO war drones to robot animals to early prototypes of robot soldiers, the robot renaissance gets weirder and creepier every day.
